Compress a video, right in your browser
Make a video small enough for email, WhatsApp or Discord. Pick a quality, or type the size you need in MB. Nothing is uploaded, so big files work too.
How to make a video smaller
- Drop your video above or choose it from your files.
- Pick Balanced for most videos, or type a target size like 9 MB for Discord or 20 MB for an email attachment.
- Press Compress video and download the result.
What actually makes a video smaller
Two things: the bitrate (how much data each second of video gets) and the resolution. Phones record at anywhere from 10 to 50 megabits per second, far more than a video needs to look good on a screen. Re-encoding it at a sensible bitrate usually cuts the size by 60 to 80% with no difference you'd notice. Dropping from 4K to 1080p, or from 1080p to 720p, saves even more.
Good to know
- A target size is a target: the result lands close to it, usually a little under.
- Videos that are already heavily compressed (many downloads, screen recordings of static content) may not shrink much. The tool tells you when that happens.
- Sound is kept at 128 kbps AAC, which is plenty for speech and music.

Questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. The file is read and processed inside this browser tab. It never leaves your computer, which is also why there is no size limit and no queue.
What size works for Discord or WhatsApp?
Discord allows 10 MB on free accounts, so a target of 9 MB is safe. WhatsApp compresses videos again when you send them as media, so a 720p file looks about as good there as a 4K one and sends much faster.
Does it work for 4K video?
Yes. Choose 1080p or 720p as the resolution to make 4K files much smaller and faster to share.
